Why I offer it

Hiring a developer or a consultant is a risk, and you carry most of it. You cannot fully judge the work until it has started, and by then you have already paid. Many distributors have been through that once and are reluctant to try again. I understand why.

The guarantee moves that risk to me, where it belongs. The first 30 days are when you find out what working with someone is really like: whether they listen, whether they understand your business, whether they do what they said. If the answer is no, you should not be out the money.

I will also be direct about my side of it. If a client were unhappy and I could not fix it, I would offer a refund anyway. An unhappy client who paid is a worse outcome for both of us. Putting it in writing means you know that before you sign, not after.

The terms, in plain words

• It covers the first 30 days of the project. That is long enough to judge the work and the working relationship.
• You are the judge. If you tell me something is not right, I get the chance to fix it. If I cannot, in your opinion, you get the refund. You do not have to prove anything.
• A refund ends the project. The work I have done comes out with it. You do not pay, and you do not keep a partial system.
• It covers my fees. Costs paid to others on your behalf, such as travel, hardware, or licenses, are not refundable.
• It applies to every engagement. Development projects and Fractional CTO work alike.
